Say “yes” to Trunk Shows

February 4, 2014

A bride looks out a window. Her hair is up in a low bun, and she wears an off the shoulder dress. Kelly Karli Weddings & Events logo overlays the image.

Remember those days, before you got engaged, when you sat on your couch to watch “Say Yes to the Dress” and thought – that looks fun!

And now, you’re in the thick of dress shopping – completely exhausted and slightly discouraged. You are finding that a lot of dresses look the same, some of the should-be-unique designs are in multiple stores, and nothing matches your vision. You are caught wondering whether your dress dream can be a reality.

A word of advice: attend a fashion and/ or trunk show. A dress is made to elevate an experience. So, how can we pick a dress if we don’t experience it first? Fashion and trunk shows give you this rare opportunity. You can see how the dress moves, how it matches a skin tone, how it lays on the body, how it looks in photographs (if you have a camera with you) – all without ever having to try one on! And, what you would not have picked up on the hanger, often looks different when it is on. Your choices broaden immensely when you discover the dresses that you otherwise would have ruled out.

We experienced this phenomena when we attended the Westword White Out Fashion Show on Thursday night. Denver designer, Deedee Vicory sent her Spring bridal collection down the runway and we were awed by how much we loved each design. Most of her gowns are reminiscent of the 1920’s, 1930’s, and 1940’s. On the hanger, these dresses could be pegged as “old” or “vintage”, but, in person the models looked like modern goddesses.
