Choosing Wedding Colors

Choosing the colors for your wedding does not seem like it would be very difficult. You might assume that the colors you are drawn to in your everyday life will make for beautiful colors at your wedding. But, there are a lot of factors to consider before you decide on what colors to incorporate. It is very important to start taking your color scheme into consideration at the beginning of planning so that everything else you put together is coordinated.

As is a good rule of thumb with most planning, start with the venue. It is extremely important to consider the venue when thinking about your colors because your main goal should be to add life to the venue, not fight it with opposing pallets. For example, if you are getting married at a golf course and the interior is navy and red, you might want to start leaning toward some more neutral tones like gold or white. Like the venue, it is also important to consider the season in which you are getting married. Lime green is going to be a hard sell in the dead of winter, whereas some cool blues or even emeralds would make for a good compromise.

Once you consider your venue, it is time to put your radar up. When flipping through bridal (or any) magazines, start to get a sense of what color combinations you are drawn to. This is a good time to consider what your favorite colors are, but try not to get too attached; you will regret trying to force a color scheme to work. Then, the next step is to narrow down what shade you like. A Pantone book is a near necessity for finding your shade. Often, bakers and invitation designers can use the Pantone book to match your exact color. Go to your local paint store and see what colors catch your eye, taking physical note of each hue.

For weddings coming up next year, FPW is already starting to see a trend. The combination of nude/peach/pale pinks and the vibrant accent of melon make for a gorgeous pallet. Start considering what colors you might want for your big day.
