With a new year comes new trends, and 2014 looks to be a year infused with romance, elegance, and breath-taking detail. Let us fill you in on what to expect for this year’s wedding trends.

Color of the Year: Radiant Orchid – Pantone released their color of 2014, a beautiful shade of purple. This color sets the tone for trends and judging by this selection, we can expect a decadent year. Pantone describes their radiant orchid choice as it, “blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination… [it is] a captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple, and pink undertones”.  Some ideas for combinations with this color would be ivory, gold, or dark purple.

Crop-top Wedding Dresses – Love it or hate it, the reintroduction of the crop-top into mainstream fashion has been hard to ignore. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Naya Riveria are in part to thank (or blame), baring their mid sections unprejudiced by occasion. Now it seems the occasion can even span to weddings. Designers like Hayley Paige are reinforcing this ode-to-the-90’s retrogression with their new collections.

The Evolution of Photo Booths – Thought photo booths would be a passing fad? Think again. Not only are photo booths still popular this year, they are gaining steam with the introduction of videography. Couples are opting to have a videographer come and set up in one area just like a photo booth. A certain number of guests will be given props and prompted to stand in front of a screen by their “director” (videographer). A short movie will be made complete with mustaches, confetti, boas, etc. Confused by this concept? Click here for an example.

Stances on Social Media – Yes, we have reached that point. Social media infiltrates our everyday lives constantly; it will have the same effect on your wedding. Some brides prefer this, and some would rather an “unplugged” event. The bright side is that, reaching the year 2014 means social media is officially part of our language. So, do not be afraid to address the issue before your big day. If you welcome social media, then set up a charging station for your guests to make sure no one has to miss a moment. If you would prefer to unplug, then address this on your invitations. Some couples even opt to collect phones at the door.
