Vendor Spotlight – Love Story Films

Cinematography on the wedding day is increasing in popularity, and for good reason! While timeless photos are essential for any wedding, a short video recapping the day brings the unforgettable moments to life for years to come. Our dear friend Sherri Innis of Love Story Films has proven time and again her talent for connecting with couples and creating wedding films truly representative of the unique beauty of the day. We want you to get to know Sherri like we do, so we asked her a few questions about herself and Love Story Films!

KKWE: Tell us about yourself and Love Story Films!

Sherri Innis: One of the best decisions and biggest successes of 2015 was launching Love Story Films. I had a successful full-time photography business in Vail, but had purposely stayed away from weddings. Then, something clicked, and I met a team of successful, driven, hardworking vendors (Kelly, Taylor, Signe you know what you did!) who inspired me, coached me, took me under their wing and helped me launch a new brand! One of the most humbling and exciting achievements was having my first-ever wedding film selected for publication on Style Me Pretty! What makes me different? It’s my style that separates me from the competition. It’s everything from technical stuff like lens choice, depth of field, focus, to how I relate to my clients. Each couple and love story is unique and are captured in a deeply personal way.

KKWE: When working a wedding or an event, how do you usually interact with other vendors? What is your experience with working with wedding planners?

SI: Working with a talented team of vendors to pull together every fabulous wedding day detail is such a treat. With wedding cinematography, I get to be a fly on the wall most of the time, capturing candid moments throughout the day. It’s so fun to watch every vendor in their element, doing what they do best. Love building those relationships and always ALWAYS tag, link, and give vendor love when posting the final film. The film is usually an amazing highlight piece of each vendor’s work as well! 

KKWE: How would you describe your style or aesthetic?

SI: It’s me. Fun, sentimental, and just awkward enough to keep my couples laughing and feeling at ease around me. The style is raw, up close, voyeuristic — making you feel like you’re right there when watching the film. It’s personal, it’s real. Nothing chincy, and nothing contrived. My shooting style is discrete so as not to interrupt the real moments. It’s not for everyone…but it doesn’t have to be. It’s a perfect fit for the brides who love my work, and in the end, they are the ones I want to work with.

KKWE: What (or who) inspires you in your work?

SI: The beautiful privilege of coming along side a couple, on a sacred day where they are committing their lives to each other, sharing that day with them, capturing the emotion of that day, then creating something by which they will always remember that day and by which their kids will experience that day… that, is the inspiration. It’s the story, the human element, the privilege.

KKWE: How would you describe your creative process?

SI: Skittlinout. My creative process requires Skittles. Taste the rainbow! Capturing the footage is one part of the process, but sitting down to edit is a whole different journey! Hours upon hours of sifting through clips, browsing music choices, cutting and weaving audio of vows… So a little bowl of skittles next to the keyboard keeps the creative process moving right along. Actually picked this up from the photographer I learned from and apprenticed for. Funny how some things stick!

KKWE: What is your favorite way to unwind?

SI: I try to build a little work and a little vacation into everyday. Red wine, cooking, hiking, mtn biking, rafting on the river, camping, binge watching tv shows, etc. There are so many ways to unwind and enjoy the beautiful mountains where I live, and I wake up and count my blessings for that everyday!

KKWE: If you weren’t a cinematographer/photographer, what would you want to do?

SI: Honestly, I’d take culinary classes and cook. It’s ironic that with a full time creative career, I find my creative outlet in the kitchen. I love food, and love cooking for friends and family!
