Most of the vendors we work with are artists. Whether they be photographers, makeup artists, musicians, or in this case, a videographer, we are constantly in awe of the way they’ve mastered their artistic domain! Larisa of Larisa Graham Films uses her artistic eye to see the beauty in candid moments between couples, families and friends. Never overlooking the small details that make the day special, Larisa creates films with a timeless touch. This week we asked her a few questions so you can get to know her better!
KKWE: Tell us about Larisa Graham Films!
Larisa Graham: I started filming weddings in 2010 after a friend asked me to capture their wedding at Piney River Ranch. They absolutely loved their film and turned out I loved making it! I’ve been filming weddings ever since and take on about 15 weddings per year. I live here in the Vail Valley (Edwards) so I know our mountain wedding venues very well. I live, work and play in these amazing locations everyday. I think it’s so important to incorporate all the beautiful scenery here in the mountains into every film.
KKWE: How do you usually work with other vendors during an event?
LG: Meeting and working with new wedding vendors is one of my favorite parts of any wedding. I’ve been told by many photographers that I am one of the easiest videographers they’ve worked with {KKWE: We agree!}. I take this as a huge compliment. As a vendor I am there to make the day as fun and seamless as possible while capturing enduring moments. Working as a team with all vendors is very important to me and something I strive for at every wedding.
KKWE: How would you describe your style or aesthetic?
LG: I describe my style as documentary wedding films. I am there to capture each moment big and small while staying as discrete as possible. I document the wedding day. I rarely ask for posed or styled shots as I believe candid moments make the best wedding films.
KKWE: What or who inspires you in your work?
LG: I love to travel. I’m very inspired by travel, seeing different parts of the world and experiencing how other cultures live. I’m also inspired by nature. Luckily Colorado has a lot to offer in that area.
KKWE: How would you describe your creative process?
LG: I go into every wedding with a plan knowing full well that plan can and probably will get thrown out the window at any point. There are so many variables when it comes to filming weddings. I think most wedding vendors would agree that we all have to stay on our toes and go with the flow. It is very important to my process to get to know the couple and their families throughout the day. Every wedding day is a story of how the couple got to this point. This is why I love the toasts. I get to know the couple through the eyes of the people who know them best.
KKWE: What is your favorite way to unwind?
LG: A glass of cabernet on my back deck always does the trick. When I really need to get away I’ll take any location with a beach or pool. I will always consider the mountains home but I need to get my beach fix at least a few times a year.
KKWE: If you weren’t a cinematographer, what would you want to do?
LG: I’d want to be one of those people who travels the world for a living and blogs about it. I’m not sure how those people make money but I’d be willing to find out.
Larisa, if you get to travel the world as a lifestyle blogger, we want in! Take a look at Larisa’s website and be sure to follow her on social media to see what she’s up to!
