Planning a wedding can be like a roller coaster ride. One minute you’re enjoying the journey of bringing your Pinterest dreams to life, the next you’re discovering the realities of that 100+ hour DIY wedding favor project. It can be overwhelming, but turning to friends and family for help can often relive that stress. Or does it?

Wedding stationery company Wedding Paper Divas decided to survey brides to find out who was the most reliable person during the wedding planning process. Here’s who they thought from their inner circle to be most dependable:

WHO WILL YOU RELY ON FOR YOUR WEDDING DAY?

The wedding day. It’s an exciting time in any bride’s life, but leading up to it can have its bumps. The stress is understandable—for many, it’s their first time planning a party.

Asking for help from family and friends can make it easier and more enjoyable. Moms, dads, bridesmaids and the groom can be a tremendous help with organizing guest lists, picking vendors or simply to be there when you need to unwind.

We asked more than 1,200 women who in their inner circle they depended on when planning their wedding day—Here is what they had to say:

MOST BRIDES LIKE TO TAKE THE LEAD

Brides say they depend on themselves for wedding planning.

With a surge in non-traditional events, such as outdoor receptions, unique destinations and other offbeat fêtes, 53% of women think it’s best to take the lead when planning their wedding. Instead, family and the bridal party may help out with smaller day-of-details. That may also include hiring a wedding planner as a neutral third party to help organize and plan.

MOM KNOWS BEST

For many, mothers are the most reliable person after the bride herself. More than a quarter of brides relied on Mom for deciding on venues, organizing guest lists and the most important decision—picking the dress.

Bridesmaids, in-laws, the groom and fathers received fewer votes, but still shows that it can take a village to plan a wedding. Those friends and family members closest to the bride can still help with smaller tasks, such as advice on decor, picking reception music and running day-of errands.

NOT ALL BRIDES PLAN THE SAME

Rural brides most likely depend on friends and family

Of the brides that rely mostly on themselves, 49% lived in suburban areas—more than any other region. Brides living in rural areas were least likely to rely only on themselves, instead having a mixture of family and friends to assist in planning.

While most brides feel they need to take the lead on their wedding day, parents, family, friends and their soon-to-be look forward to contributing to the celebration too. Unsure of how to divy up to-do’s? Check out ourplanning guide for a full list of ideas leading up to your big day.
