One of a Kind: Maggie Evans

December 4, 2013

Mass production has become a staple in our society. From owning an iPhone to breaking down and buying UGG boots (it’s okay, we get it, they’re so comfortable), many of us purchase the same things. The wedding industry is not immune to this effect. Luckily, there are certain creatives who dedicate their professional lives to breaking the mold.

Meet Maggie Evans. Maggie is a wedding dress designer who brings a unique edge not only to her designs, but to the function of her business. She specializes in making one-of-a-kind dresses that are tailored exclusively for her clients.

A Maggie Evans dress can take anywhere from 20 to 300 hours of labor. Working almost exclusively with silk, her favorite fabrics are silk taffeta and silk organza for the endless sculptural possibilities they provide. What truly makes her dresses unique is the fact that they are hand-sewn. She makes a point to emphasize her hand-stitching in her designs to set her dresses apart from other mass-produced or store-bought dresses. Maggie goes the extra mile. She even offers a unique service that she calls vintage redesign where she can use a vintage dress to create a new look by giving it a fresh update, or using only elements from the vintage dress (like putting the old buttons on a new dress). She also offers to use the vintage dress as a whole and tailor it to the new bride.

In her 13 years of experience, Maggie has recognized that being a designer in this industry requires a level of understanding. Not only do you have to understand how to make a dress, but you also have to understand how to work with people. As a former student of psychology, Maggie strikes a balance with the emotional and communicative aspects of dress making by staying open with her clients and keeping their visions in mind throughout the entire creative process.

In a world where we are so encouraged to indulge in mass-production, it is a relief to have such a unique professional in Colorado’s wedding industry.
